Communication/Radio Coordinator

Communications Manager

Role Overview

Communications Coordinator is a critical role is best filled by a Ham Radio operator. During a disaster, information relayed from local communities to a government Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is essential for effective situational awareness and response. When conventional communication networks are down or overwhelmed, Ham Radio operators provide a resilient and indispensable link.

The Communications Coordinator manages all inbound and outbound communications using any available methods, including radio, cellular networks, or the internet. If technical systems fail, they may also utilize “human networks” via pedestrians, bicycles, ATVs, or other vehicles to relay messages. This coordinator works closely with the Hub Manager and Information Coordinator to ensure data is shared internally and disseminated to local EOCs and other Safe Hub Communications Officers (COs).
